Expert insights on the General Data Protection Regulation in the EU and Data Privacy

On May25, 2018, Digital Era, the yearly data security forum organized by data and cyber security specialist Data Security Solutions and the Association of Latvian Certified Data Protection Officers in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Data State Inspectorate of the Republic of Latvia took place in Riga, Latvia.

In its 5th edition, Baltic’s largest event with this focus featured international data security experts from a wealth of industry segments as speakers. More than 1,000 high-level ICT professionals from local, regional, and international businesses, governments and government agencies as well as tech communities attended the event. The delegates including CEO, CFO, CSO, CISO, CIO, and legal and audit officers responsible for business & IT risks or GDPR compliance topics. For those who could not be there in person, all talks were live-streamed.

The event kicked off with key notes on why the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and customer trust are paramount prerequisites for a future that’s becoming increasingly digital and how technologies like blockchain can support the right to be forgotten and thus help consumers gain back control on their data.

The session speakers covered, among many others, information on: the impact of GDPR on digital transformation of companies, the need for privacy by design, implications of electronic identities, how to solve the WhatsApp communication problem in enterprises in a GDPR compliant way, and why secure coding and cybersecurity go hand in hand with implementing solutions compliant with GDPR.
